BD and Whirlpool Corporation join the Workplace Employers Alliance for COVID-19 Testing (WE ACT)
The companies join CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher in Workplace Testing Coalition

WASHINGTON, DC, February 19, 2021 – Today, the global medical technology company BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) and Whirlpool Corporation, the world’s leading kitchen and laundry appliance company, joined the Workplace Employers Alliance for COVID-19 Testing (WE ACT) to participate in the group’s efforts to expand employer-based testing for COVID-19.

WE ACT, established in December 2020, is an alliance of leading US employers that supports meaningful solutions to promote employer-based COVID-19 testing. WE ACT serves as a resource for public officials working to protect their communities and for businesses aiming to launch or expand their own employer-based testing programs.

“For months, BD has worked tirelessly to expand the COVID-19 diagnostic capacity in the United States and around the world by ramping up manufacturing, deploying millions of COVID-19 tests and increasing access to tools for testing sample collection,” said Dave Hickey, president of Life Sciences for BD. “BD’s SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen and molecular tests have provided solutions in virtually every health care setting including labs, hospitals, urgent care centers, as well as schools, airports and businesses. The value of WE ACT members’ collective experience in the workplace, whether the testing of their own employees or the deployment of testing tools and products for other workplace programs, cannot be understated. We look forward to working with businesses across the country to reopen the economy and supporting them with access to COVID-19 tests.”

Whirlpool Corporation has been an essential appliance manufacturer throughout the pandemic – building and servicing millions of home appliances for consumers. The company has also collaborated with Dow and Reynolds to spearhead the innovation and manufacturing of Powered Air Purification Respirators (PAPR), that helped provide much-needed respirators for the men and women in healthcare facilities working on the frontlines to combat the spread of COVID-19.
