Statement from WE ACT on Newly Announced HHS and CDC Funding for COVID-19 Testing

WASHINGTON, DC, January 7, 2021 – The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have announced plans to allocate $22 billion in funding to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic, including stepped up workplace testing. WE ACT senior advisor Michael Meehan released the following statement:

“This is precisely the kind of response WE ACT and our members are advocating for in order to increase national COVID-19 testing capacity. We consider this a solid down payment for future efforts to get this pandemic under control. Employer-based testing programs are essential to keeping employees, and the communities they call home, safe during the current public health emergency.

“In these critical few months, as the vaccine rollout continues, workplace testing is the bridge that will keep as many Americans safe as possible. We are encouraged by the statements of the incoming Biden Administration, who plan to implement a national testing strategy. We stand ready to work with them. We look forward to seeing more decisive action to expand capacity like the one taken by HHS and the CDC today.”

WE ACT’s membership includes leading employers in the United States like CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher Scientific. To learn more about the alliance’s work, please visit WeActAlliance.org.
