WE ACT: Biden Executive Action to Increase Testing Capacity is a Welcome Development for American Workplaces
CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher’s Workplace Testing Coalition (WE ACT) says Biden Executive Order will bring needed federal support for expanded testing
WASHINGTON, DC, January 21, 2021 – Today, in a series of executive actions designed to address the COVID-19 pandemic during his first days in office, President Joe Biden signed an executive order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 through expanded testing and clear public health standards for COVID-19 testing.
Michael Meehan, a senior advisor for the Workplace Employers Alliance for COVID-19 Testing (WE ACT) – whose membership includes CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher Scientific – released the following statement in response to the new action taken by the President:
“We applaud President Biden and his administration as he hits the ground running to get this virus under control. For months, leading employers like CVS Health, Amazon, Thermo Fisher Scientific have taken significant steps, including the development of risk-based testing, to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in their workplaces and communities. This has been a herculean effort, and with the right support and resources from the federal government, it can be replicated across the private sector to ensure we are doing all we can to keep employees safe and get more workplaces reopened.
“By providing federal testing guidance and filling gaps in testing equipment supply, President Biden is building a necessary bridge to keep people safe and keep the economy open over the coming months as vaccines reach more arms.”
WE ACT’s membership includes leading US employers like CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher Scientific. For a full list of the members of WE ACT, and to learn more about the alliance’s work, please visit WeActAlliance.org.
