Workplace Employers Alliance for COVID-19 Testing (WE ACT) Applauds President-Elect Biden’s COVID-19 Strategy and Calls for Expanded National Workplace Testing
WASHINGTON, DC, January 14, 2021 – Tonight, President-elect Joe Biden announced his administration’s plans for a national strategy to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Michael Meehan, a senior advisor for the Workplace Employers Alliance for COVID-19 Testing (WE ACT) – whose membership includes CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher Scientific – released the following statement in response to the vision laid out by the President-elect:
“President-elect Biden’s forceful plan makes clear that the incoming administration will take a smart, aggressive approach to stopping the spread of COVID-19. 100 million shots in 100 days is exactly the kind of robust national approach our country needs to control the spread of this virus in the coming months.
“In the near term, widespread testing — especially in essential workplaces — will also be a critical part of our defense against this virus in coming months. We applaud the Biden administration’s planned investment and commitment to increasing testing capacity. WE ACT believes that the U.S. can save lives and beat this pandemic by ensuring employers have access to high quality tests, straightforward reporting expectations and data to assist contact tracing efforts. Clear and enforceable testing guidance and investments in improving test result turnaround times should also be prioritized.
“We are encouraged by the leadership and seriousness President-elect Biden has shown in stopping the spread of this virus, and WE ACT looks forward to providing input based on our collective workplace testing experience wherever possible.”
WE ACT’s membership includes leading US employers like CVS Health, Amazon and Thermo Fisher Scientific. For a full list of the members of WE ACT, and to learn more about the alliance’s work, please visit WeActAlliance.org.
